NECESSITIES

BANKS:
There are 6 Banks in C.F. (Castiglion Fiorentino the nearest town to Santa Margherita) - Three in the old Town in Corso, Italia. There is one close to the train station at the cross light, one in Viale Mazzini, and one turning left when you are on the main road SS71 just one street before the turn to the motor way to Florence. They are opened from 8:30 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

CHEMISTS SHOPS:
There are three in town, one is near the train station just after a left turn to your right, the other two are in the old town in Corso, Italia.

PETROL STATIONS:
Opening hours (the C.F. 3 fuel stations are all along the main road SS71): from 7:30 to 12:30 -from 15:30 to 19:30 Monday to Saturday (closed on Sundays). The self-service is available during closing hours.

TRANSPORTATION

TRAINS:
The train station in Castiglion Fiorentino is located near the main road SS71. Take a right turn at the first cross light and go straight to the next cross light and turn left. The train station is straight ahead. It is a small station but it is on the Firenze-Roma mainline. Trains leave every hour for Florence and take 1 hour and 15 minutes. ( This train stops in Arezzo.) Trains leave every two hours for Rome and take 2 hours and 20 minutes. We will provide train schedules.

BUSES:
The bus terminal is in Piazza Garibaldi, C.F. which go to Cortona, Arezzo and Foiano.

FOOD STORES

THE VALLEY
In the valley there are two small food stores. One is in Noceta going to C.F. (Casiglion Fiorentino) which is about 3 km. from Santa Margherita and the other is about 2 1/2 km., going in the opposite direction, in Santa Cristina. The latter is the bigger of the two stores.

CASTIGLION FIORENTINO:

BAKERY: Turn right on Viale Mazzini at the light where you turn left to the train station. After 100 meters you will see the AURORA BAKERY AND WINES.

CONFECTIONERY: The best one is in front of the bakery in Viale Mazzini called PASTICCERIA LA PERLA. They make expresso and cappuccino.

BUTCHERS: There are two in Viale Mazzini. One is 50 mtrs. After you turn onto this street on your right and another further up the street on your left before the Shaker Bar.

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: There are four in town but the best one is the one at the top of Viale Mazzini on your right. This is very good produce at reasonable prices.

WINE SHOPS: There are three in town. One is on via Madonna del Rivaio going up through the main gate to the old town. One is in the old town on Corso Italia called Enoteca. The third one is one the main road SS71 towards Arezzo, past the Park Hotel and turn left.

SUPERMARKETS:

Co-Op: Go on the main SS71 road to Arezzo and turn left when you see the green sign saying Autostrada A1 Fi-Ro and the Co-Op will be on your left side about 200 mtrs. from the main road. There is a good selection of wines, fresh bread, fish and a butchery. ( The Co-Op in Cortona is further away but is larger and has a huge selection of everything. )

EUROSPAR: Go along the main road to Arezzo past the Co-Op turn off and at the next cross light turn left. They have good quality fresh fish.

PENNY MARKET: This is in front of the Eurospar.

WEEKLY STREET MARKETS:

The local street markets offer a large range of products, fresh vegetables and fruits, cheeses, and fish as well as clothes, shoes and other items.

"ROGGI" (closed on Monday )intimate environment in an ancient, brick vaulted wine cellar plus tables on the street for the evening. Typical Tuscan food, tasty pizza (evening only ), good quality and friendly service, fairly priced, located in Via della Tinaia n.9, which is past the main Square (Piazza del Municipio) going down, take your first left. Trattoria-Pizzeria "LA FOCE" (closed on Monday). Located about 8km.out of town at the top of the hill road leading to Palazzo del Pero. This road leaves C.F. from Piazza Garibaldi (the main car parking and bus terminal). FLIGHT SCHOOL/ FLIGHT TOURS:
Conte Serristori Loc.Manciano about 4 km. from C.F., direction A1( motor way to Florence) turning left at the green sign then straight for 3 Km along the road to the right. This can be a very interesting experience …to fly over the Valdichiana area. The cost is 100 E. per 1 hour but it is possible to do a ½ hr. flight as well.

BIKE TRAILS IN THE VALDICHIO AREA
There are beautiful places to bike in this area. We will provide a good guide with all the old paths and the historical spots to visit along the way.
